i kind of find it humorous that you judge the quality of your anime by the ammount of time the creators milk the franchise for every penny it is worth. having used to watch both of these shows growing up i can tell you that their are similarities between the two but that doesn't exactly make the show a rip off from one or the other. if that is the case then from what i can see bakugan is nothing more than a hybrid rip off of yugioh and pokémon |

I agree with Chester. Digimon is very different to Pokemon. There are similarities, like in the fact that they are about kids who have monster friends etc. But people don't seem to get the differences. Digimon is great. Pokemon is also great.
I'm kind of sick of people acting as though you can only like one or the other. They are not the same. Watch it properly and find out. And by the way. And this name thing annoys me too. Their names were originally Pocket Monsters and Digital Monsters. Pokemon and Digimon are just titles using the same way of shortening the title to make it sound more appealing. It doesn't make them the same thing. By the way Pokemon started from a nintendo game and digimon started from a virtual pet. These are vaguely similar in that you raise a monster to become powerful but there are a million games like that. It's just that these two are the most prominent of them. Monster Rancher is another variation on the format. But I don't see many people saying that it is a rip off. Please stop complaining about this.

I meant to say "was" even as far back as the ancient times and "still is" today. Countries like Japan still consider what we may consider "copying" as honoring something. After all, Pokemon and Digimon were both created in Japan. |

Oh my god, this is just daft. There is no need to argue this point. It seems that neither of you is willing to change their opinion. I've already made mine known. But I just don't care this much.
Can't you just agree to disagree? (Although I would like to add, in the hope that this won't start another debate, that The Simpsons is nowhere near as good as it used to be) |

Yes. You can look at Pokemon and Digimon as the same genre of anime: a Monster genre. In RPG games, you make your character train Monsters instead of directly having the character itself train like in Dragon Ball Z games for example. Having Monsters friends is not that unique of a concept that Digimon would have had to copy Pokemon to come up with the idea. Edited by Chester40, Jan 30 2010, 04:35 PM.

We're not in Japan, either (I'm not, I don't know about the rest of you), and that's also part of the problem. We should look at Pokemon and Digimon from the aspect of the country they were created in. Digimon may be considered a copy in the United States, but not by Japan's standards. The Japanese imitate other things all the time to honor them, or to try to compete with the things they are imitating. Imitation is probably one of the reasons the animation styles in a lot of animes/mangas look so similar to one another. Do you think that without culture, people would come up with such similar animation independently of one another? Nothing can be completely original anymore. Because of our environment and all the information we take in, we may not mean to "copy" things, but we still will be influenced by something subconsciously. Today, unless they grew up blind and deaf and in isolation from all of humanity, all creators, writers, musicians, artists, etc., have influences. |

...yeah this argument would probably do better if it was in the Digimon instead of the Pokemon section. Most people that love Pokemon hate Digimon, like KoolKool said, die-hard Pokemon fans tend to act like they can only like one or the other, and I bet all the die-hard Pokemon fans (who tend to be biased towards Digimon, you racists! just because Digimon are made out of data doesn't make them... lol jk) at DBZ-Zone come here.
